To get you involved, here are some of the ways you can participate during the month of October in Breast Cancer Awareness: There is the Atlanta Two-Day Walk for Breast Cancer produced by It’s the Journey. Other groups also have some great events planned, including Sisters By Choice and ACTIVE’s 13th Annual Pink Ribbon Walk. National Good Neighbor Day is observed annually on September 28.It was started in the 1970s by Becky Mattson and made an official day by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. The national celebration was created to acknowledge the importance of having and being a good neighbor. Often, good neighbors become good friends. They are there to watch over our homes when we are away or help out with the kids, pets, and/or mail. And, we do the same for them. This is especially important considering how much more we spend online with virtual friendships and often forget about the value and importance of face-to-face interaction. When it comes to our neighbors, staying close to them and being good to each other also helps build a sense of community as well as improves the security of the surrounding area. To celebrate National Good Neighbor Day, do something nice for your neighbor today. That can be a kind note to let them know you appreciate them. Or, it might be helping them out on a project. Of course, a small gift is also a nice gesture for Good Neighbor Day like these ideas: SUNBURST BOUQUET includes sunflowers, green mini hydrangeas, orange Asiatic lilies, … Read More about Celebrating National Good Neighbor Day in Atlanta »

Labor Day has many meanings. The original intent was to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the American worker. The reward was to issue a national holiday that would mean many people get to enjoy a three-day weekend. For others, Labor Day signals the official end of summer (although fall doesn’t start until mid-September). For school-age children and their parents, this three-day weekend means that school is just around the corner — often, the day after this holiday weekend. Many people enjoy this weekend with block parties, barbecues, and pool time. All of these can be enhanced by adding some special flowers to the decor. Adding centerpieces and other flower arrangements around the home can bring warmth and make the most of the last of the summer flowers. This is also a great gift idea if you are invited to someone’s Labor Day event. As the seasons change, here are some great flower arrangements to enjoy during this transitional time: FLORAL EMBRACE This garden arrangement includes sunflowers, stock, garden roses, and lilies arranged in a glass vase. PARISIAN One of our most popular flower arrangements, this beauty features garden hydrangea, lilies, roses, lisianthus, and seasonal accents in a willow … Read More about Labor Day Weekend Arrives September 1-4th! »
