Veteran’s Day in Atlanta

Veteran’s Day is Friday, November 11th and is the time of year in which we recognize those veterans that have served our country well, helping to preserve our freedom through various wars and conflicts. We honor both those still living among us as well as those that have passed on. The biggest event we have in Atlanta for Veteran’s Day is the annual parade. This is the 35th year that it has been held in Atlanta with it falling on Saturday, November 12th and kickoff at 11:11am. Each year, the Atlanta Veteran’s Day parade has a theme. The Georgia Veteran’s Day Association, which is the organization behind the event, selected Honoring the USO as this year’s them. The United Services Organization (USO) has provided support for active duty military forces for 75 years no matter where they are in the world – from airports to military bases to battlefields. This year’s grand marshal is General George Casey, U.S. Army (Retired) who had a 41-year career in the U.S. Army and is a known thought leader in strategic leadership. Celebrating Veteran’s Day in Atlanta

In honor of our veterans this Wednesday, November 11th, we offer a wide array of special patriotic flower arrangements to use on graves, at Veteran’s Day events and parades, or for loved ones still alive. Show Your Support for Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day is Tuesday, November 11th, but the city of Atlanta is celebrating early with its special Veteran’s Day Parade on Saturday, November 8th. The 33rd Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 11:11am. The theme this year honors our Korean War Veterans who will participate in the parade and are welcome as special guests. This year’s Grand Marshal is Capt. Dale Dye USMC (Retired).  The 2014 Veterans Festival is presented by the Georgia Veterans Day Parade Association of Atlanta, Inc.  The festival takes place on November 8, 2014 between 10:00am and 3:00pm and will be located at Pemberton Park between the World of Coca Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. The Georgia Veterans Day Parade Association of Atlanta, Inc. will also host the 2014 Freedom Ball the evening of November 8, 2014, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Freedom Ball is an annual fundraiser and will be held at the Oceans Ballroom in the Georgia Aquarium. Veterans’ Day is November 11th

Next Monday is Veterans’ Day, which is celebrated every year on November 11th. This blog post provides background on this special day of remembrance and thanks for all our war veterans. We also have some information on some local Veterans’ Day events in the Atlanta area. Origins and Observance of Veterans’ Day Veterans’ Day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I. The reason it is celebrated on this day was because the armistice was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 to end World War I. In 1926, the U.S. Congress recognized it as a special day of prayer and thanksgiving, and it finally became a legal holiday in 1938. However, it is really become a special day to thank all veterans of all wars for their service on behalf of everyone in the United States. Observances usually include parades and church services. This is one of the many days that people put out an American flag at their home or business. Some schools, offices, and financial institutions are closed.
